⭐ The Best Ham Roll Ups

Ham roll ups are one of my favorite appetizers to whip up at the end of the week when the cupboards and fridge are looking a bit dry! I always have these ingredients on hand, more or less. I love making them because they are versatile, flavorsome, and super easy.

Fresh deli ham, spinach, and ricotta cheese make this delicious roll-up appetizer. It's ideal for meal preparation (snacking), a quick dinner, or picnics.

Who knew something so simple could taste so good!

The versatility is excellent with roll ups! Even when I don't have ricotta cheese for this recipe, I use sliced cheese instead or just a combination of cheeses and mix it with whatever vegetables I have. I even use flour tortilla wraps if I don't have sliced ham to make the roll ups, but they obviously taste better with ham.

    🍽 What you need

Feel free to use your favorite deli meat, but make sure they're cut thin and large. I usually use smoked honey ham because they are succulently juicy. You get big round slices perfect for making these ham roll ups.

I use spinach for this recipe, but you can choose kale also, as they are similar in flavor and texture.

    • homemade ranch seasoning
    • authentic taco seasoning
    • black olives
    • pickles

🔪 How to make Ham Rolls Ups

Turn your oven on to broil while making the roll ups. Leave the temperature on low.

    Step 1
Heat the spinach in a hot skillet with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Cook the spinach until slightly wilted.

Tightly roll the ham around the filling to create a ham roll-up and repeat this step with the rest of the sliced ham and cheese mixture.

You may want to double the recipe; they will be a big hit!

Serving suggestions: Serve these roll ups with chopped parsley and sour cream or marinara dip. You may also find these easy sauces recipes pair well with this recipe.

    💭 Top Recipe Tips

    • Make the same filling but with thinly sliced leftover roast beef, turkey slices, pepperoni, or any other type of meat slice that is foldable without breaking. Make sure the slices are thin and round.
    • Substitute the ham slices for gluten-free flour tortillas to make them vegetarian and gluten-free.
    • Use what cheeses you have in the fridge if you don't have ricotta or mozzarella. I find that cheddar cheese, Bree, or Monterey jack work well with this recipe.
    • It takes practice to roll tightly. Stick toothpicks through the ends of the roll ups to keep them tight.

    📖 Ham Roll-up Variations

Looking for more easy appetizer recipes for your next party. In that case, these perfect party food suggestions will have you done and dusted in the kitchen in less than 15 minutes that are low-carb and irresistible.

    Ham and Pickle Roll Ups

If you like the combination of ham, pickle spears, and cream cheese, then this super-easy appetizer is for you! Ham and pickle roll ups are super low-carb, moreish, and ready to eat in 5 minutes.

    Turkey tortilla roll ups

Roast turkey tortilla roll ups are a great alternative to ham roll ups. They are great as a healthy snack and pack lunches for the kids. They are made with green onion & sour cream dressing, sliced deli turkey, shredded cheese, and wrapped up in a low-carb tortilla.

You will be surprised at how quickly they get eaten!

Ham, egg, and cheese roll ups

I call these breakfast roll ups at home because they are the perfect grab-and-eat breakfast. There is no need to make dirty pots and pans every morning; just make your favorite scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, veggies, and deli meat. They last for days refrigerated, and they are low-carb and gluten-free.

Again, these ham roll ups are super versatile! You can change up the filling however you want. You can add a pickle spear inside and top with green onions.

    Alternative Seasonings

Take things up a notch by introducing new flavors through seasonings like:

    • authentic taco seasoning
    • homemade ranch seasoning
    • adobo seasoning recipe

    🧊 Storing

Ham roll ups are perfect for prepping in advance for game day, a family gathering, or whatever the occasion may be.

    Fridge

You can store the leftover in the fridge on a plate covered with plastic wrap for up to 3 days or transfer them to an airtight container. I do not recommend freezing ham and cheese roll ups as the ricotta cheese may not react well when thawing and may become liquified.

    Making ahead

If you have a holiday party to prepare snacks for, you may want to make these ham and cheese roll ups the night before or in the morning so that you save time.

I usually prepare 3 different variations of roll ups in the morning when I have a party. Still, when I eat them as an appetizer, I prepare them as soon as the guests arrive.

Go ahead and prepare these super-easy-delicious ham roll ups in 15 minutes that serve 10 people, and let me know what you think.

The recipe says these can be prepared ahead of time and warmed before serving. Does that mean I should only prepare them to the before oven stage or can they be out under the broiler today and then reheated tomorrow? Please advise. Thank you.

Prepare to before the oven stage. Broil them once you are ready to serve.

Hubby doesn't like spinach or kale . . . SO, I used a spear of cooked am dente asparagus. He loved them.
