- 1 gallon = 4 quarts or 8 pints or 16 cups
- 1 quart = 2 pints or 4 cups

This is especially useful when cutting a recipe in half or creating a recipe designed to feed an army. And if you don’t have a quart measuring cup laying around, usually they are delineated in cups. So if a recipe calls for 2 quarts of something, you need to know how many cup that is so you can accurately measure it out.
By the way, it’s 8 cups. There are 8 cups in 2 quarts and 4 cups in 1 quart.
You can get bigger measuring cups with quarts delineated on them, but I have not seen one with pints indicated. So you will definitely need this handy chart if your recipe calls for pints.
Somewhere, someone’s grandma has a cookie recipe that she makes every year that makes dozens of cookies.
And I bet that she probably doesn’t even measure her ingredients out. Because she’s a pro.
But when she passes on that recipe to her granddaughter, she needs to measure. That’s where this how many cups are in a quart chart comes in handy. No memorizing. Just print it out and refer to it whenever you need it.

It’s rarely convenient to stop and pull up the conversion on your computer. Google knows the answers, but then you will get cookie dough all over your keyboard.
Although you could lick it off…which is kind of a win.
