Every once in awhile something comes along that reminds me of my childhood. The Game of Life game is one of these things. I remember playing it with my sister over and over again. I remember the sound of the spinner. I remember the little pink and blue pegs signifying spouses and children. I remember careers, having to pay other players for things that happened to me and pay days and retirement. The Game of Life game inspired me to dream about what my life would be like when I grew up.
So when I had the opportunity to share The Game of Life game with my kids, I jumped at the chance to share a childhood favorite with them and maybe inspire them to dream about what they want to be when they grow up.
The Game of Life Game from Hasbro has been around since 1960 but has recently been revamped thanks for some input from real kids what they think the most exciting and interesting career options are. The new careers added to the game are: Singer, Secret Agent, Veterinarian, Teacher, Doctor, Professional Athlete, Scientist, Fashion Designer, Lawyer, Inventor, Chef, Race Car Driver, Dancer, Police Officer, Firefighter and Video Game Designer. The top dream job pick by kids is video game designer.
My son agrees.
He was super excited to pull Video Game Designer as a career option when we played. It is a career he would love to have when he grows up.
The Game of Life game has a bunch of great career options, and we enjoy playing over and over again to see if we can get a different career each time. Well, I do. My son always wants the Video Game Designer career.
My daughter, however, is partial to the Veterinarian career. It’s what she wants to be when she grows up!
We all enjoy The Game of Life game, my kids especially enjoy earning money when they pass a payday space, and my son is obsessed with buying houses.
I love all of the updated new graphics on the cards and the game board!
My daughter loves adding “babies” to her car.
The Game of Life game has happily become our favorite way to spend family time each week and it’s been a great way for us to get to learn a little bit more about the things our kids are interested in. The nostalgia for me, combined with the conversation starters with my kids has really helped create a great bonding experience for us. The Game of Life game allows them to explore different options while making independent choices and experiencing fun and interesting options and challenges along the way.
April 23rd is Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day, which is the perfect tie-in with this game. Not only can you chat with them about what they dream about being when they grow up, they can actually SEE what you do to help give them an idea of the actual tasks and responsibilities required for different jobs.
The Game of Life game from Hasbro with brand new career cards chosen by kids is available in stores NOW! The retail price is $19.99 and is for 2-4 players ages 8 and up. It is available at most major retailers nationwide and HasbroToyShop.com.
