This morning I posted about how they let the “honeybee killer” suspect Brian Dorian (who is a Lynwood, Illinois police officer) free and they had dropped the charges against him.
Today at school they did not let the kids go outside for recess.
Mine is 6 1/2.
He barely knew what happened to begin with, I certainly didn’t share this new information with him.
But of course, he came home and informed me that the “shooter was out”. He insisted football practice would be canceled because of the “shooter”.
I poo-pooed him, and told him that it was ok and that I was sure they would have practice today.
An hour later the phone rang.
Tonight before bed, he started to stall.
Then he said it. “But the gunner is still out there.”
I said “I locked all the windows and all the doors.”
He said “But he has a GUN.”

So I started grasping.
I told him that I won’t let anything happen, that the dog is here and we are safe. I hugged him. I reassured him. I told him that the guy had probably fled to Mexico by now.
He seemed to buy that one.
But every night since last Tuesday when they first locked down the school he has awaken in the middle of the night and comes in and wakes me up to tell me that he is scared. Every night. Even when they thought they had the killer.
Here’s the thing.
At times I share his fears and it feels like he can see right through me…..
