I know that having filtered water and ice in the door of our refrigerator encourages us all to drink more water. I know I drink much more because of it and I’m starting to see the same habits in my kids.
In fact, they ask for water almost as much as they ask for chocolate.
That’s a lie.
But, they do ask for water more than most kids and I’ve seen my son refill his cup numerous times throughout the day. Not only does having the filtered water make them more likely to drink water, they can get it themselves which they really seem to get a kick out of doing for themselves.
When my kids were younger and we switched from bottles to sippy cups, we established a routine of taking a sippy cup of ice water to bed. I’m not sure exactly how or why, but it continues to this day. It keeps them from waking us up in the middle of the night for a drink and has helped us reinforce the healthy habits of drinking water regularly.
Also, my son is allowed it bring a water bottle to school each day to leave on his desk. He ALWAYS brings it and always drinks all the water in it during his school day. Sometimes he comes home and fills it back up again and drinks another bottle while doing his homework.
I really believe water is an essential part of a healthy diet and I really could not live without my Whirlpool water filter in my fridge. It has helped us establish healthy habits that we are successfully passing on to our kids.
