My Facebook wall is filled with friends and family who are sick.
Tis the season….
I’ve been sick this year as well and it really dragged me down. It lasted close to two weeks and was brutal! I really thought I was going to need to give and go see the doctor but in the end I consulted “Dr. Google” and found some good old-fashioned natural remedies for my sinus infection.
And I was quite surprised that they worked.
Now, you con’t really control whether or not you will get sick, but there are some things you can do to help make sure the odds are at least in your favor when it comes to trying to stay healthy.
Trick #1 – a fighting chance
Give your immune system a boost with plenty of good bacteria, vitamin C and vitamin D. Whether it’s through probiotics, yogurt, dairy, citrus or supplements, keeping your immune system functioning at its peak is key to fighting off germs. If you are taking supplements, do your homework and make sure they don’t contain anything artificial. You can shop for vitamin C online at Golden Glow but eating nutrient dense fruits and vegetables also helps boost your immune system. You might not have a perfect diet overall but ensuring that you get lots of vitamins and minerals naturally from your food can have a big impact.
Trick #2 – an apple a day
We have all heard the saying that “an apple a day” keeps the doctor away. I’m sure most people think it’s hooey but it’s not. Apples are full of antioxidants, fiber, B-vitamins and vitamin C. Fermented apples are even better. Fermented apples come in the form of apple cider vinegar (get the kind with “the mother” in it) and fights germs, promotes a healthy gut, clears a stuffy nose, balances blood sugar and soothes a sore throat. Among other things. You will can prevent or help cure a cold by drinking apple cider vinegar. For the recipe: 5 Reasons to Drink Apple Cider Vinegar.
Trick #3 – get some shut eye
Sleep is something we all want more of, and it’s actually part of the prescription for a healthy life. Sleep allows your body to recharge. It reduces stress. It reduces inflammation. A lack of sleep can actually reduce your immune function which makes you more likely to get sick. So don’t feel guilty about sleeping in, it actually is healthy!
