The life of a blogger goes beyond the blog. It’s not just about writing posts, social media is an integral aspect of being a blogger and the more you engage in social media, the more followers and readers you will draw in back to your blog. I spend more time engaging in social media than I do writing articles most days, and I have found the Samsung Galaxy S3 to be the perfect tool for me to maintain and grow my online presence no matter where I may be.
Attend any event where bloggers are present and all you see are the tops of their heads…because they have their faces down looking at their phones. Apps are critical to our online relationships.
The following apps are my “go-to” blogging and social media related apps for when I am on the go. They are probably not new to most people, but they are a good solid base of apps that I consider “must-haves”.
I don’t generally blog much from my phone, but when I do, I rely on WordPress for Android to get the job done.
Foursquare is the most fun when you are on a trip with other bloggers because you can compete for the top spot but it’s also just kinda fun to see where people spend their day when they check-in.
You can’t talk about apps and not mention Facebook. It is the first place I go in the morning and the last place I visit at night. I am constantly checking what is going on in the world through Facebook. It allows me to connect on a more personal level with people.
I love this Pinterest app and I can get lost in it for hours. It is slick and beautiful, and a great way to discover new recipes, new ideas for around the house, crafts, and so much more. Pinterest is also a great way to drive traffic to blog posts, so the more “pinning” you can do, the more you can build your followers and your network.
Instagram makes it easy to take great photos, add a bit of editing, and share it across your favorite social networks for all to see. Instagram also serves as a social network in itself, allowing comments and likes.
StumbleUpon can be a huge source of traffic for a blogger. It also serves as a great way to explore other content across the web. I look forward to the new sites and information I will discover when I stumble. The app makes it quick and easy!
Tweetdeck is the way I like to use Twitter and I am so happy it is available in an app. Where Twitter limits what you can see at one time, Tweetdeck lets you open multiple streams with different parameters.
Microsoft OneNote is an awesome tool for bloggers, especially if you have Microsoft Office installed on your computer. When I receive documents or emails I want to save and may need to refer to from multiple locations, I no longer print it out, I “send to OneNote” and it appears across all of my devices. It organized things like file folders and is a huge help in organizing all the data and information I need to complete my blogging commitments.
Do you have any “must-have” free apps for bloggers that didn’t make my list? I’d love to hear about them.
