I love summer.
I’ll take 90 degrees and 200% humidity over cold any day of the week.
But it wasn’t always this way. I used to prefer cooler weather, and during the summer I would be found hiding my pale skin inside in the air conditioning. I used to sunburn easily and I don’t sweat properly so I would overheat quickly. It just wasn’t worth the effort, so I limited my fitness activities indoors during the summer and spent winters running in negative temps and loving it.
But something changed as I got older. I began to crave the outdoors. The heat and the sun began to fuel my body and my mind. I still don’t sweat easily, but I’ve learned how to adapt and be smart about my time in the sun and strangely enough, I no longer sunburn – I tan easily.
This new-found affinity for summer has opened up a whole world of physical activity for me. My most favorite is mowing the lawn. We live on 1/3 of an acre and that 2 hours of mowing is such an amazing workout.
I also recently bought a new bike and have been experiencing all kinds of muscles in my legs that I never knew I had.
I find summertime fitness to be so different than any other time of the year. It’s always important to fuel your body properly and stay hydrated but outdoor summer activities make this even more critical because so much more energy and hydration is lost because of the heat.
There are a lot of different ways to stay hydrated and get the energy you need, but there is only one way to get both energy and hydration in a ready-to-drink format that doesn’t contain anything artificial – ProHydrate from AboutTime.
I first introduced you to AboutTime a couple of months ago when I shared their delicious protein pancake mix. AboutTime has a number of natural protein products made especially for a healthy lifestyle.
AboutTime ProHydrate is a ready-to-drink protein water that contains nothing artificial. It is gluten-free and it sweetened with Stevia. Each 12 oz bottle contains 20g of whey protein isolate, has only 3g Carbohydrates and only 95 calories.
You can enjoy ProHydrate straight from the bottle, it comes in Raspberry Lemonade and Orange Mango flavors. It’s great for on-the-go, when you need energy and hydration in a single, light drink. But you can also enjoy it with another thing that I love about summer – fresh fruit!
I decided to make a Sangria “fitness fuel” recipe with ProHydrate Orange Mango. You can use any fruits you want, I chose watermelon, strawberries and pineapple to compliment the orange and mango flavors.
- 12 oz bottle of ProHydrate
- 2 chopped strawberries
- 1/4 cup chopped watermelon
- 3-4 chunks fresh pineapple
- Put fresh fruit in the bottom of a steel shaker cup and mash with a spoon.
- Fill a glass halfway with crushed ice.
- Pour mashed fruit over ice.
- Pour ProHydrate over ice & fruit mixture.
