When I worked for an Architectural firm back before my daughter was born, one of the most fun things about Christmas were the gift baskets that vendors and manufacturers would send. Digging into those baskets to explore what goodies lay inside like cookies, candies, honey, nuts, and more was one of those simple pleasures in life that will remain a part of my memories of Christmas. To this day, when I shop during the holidays, I am drawn to the gift baskets and gift sets that the stores sell. They are a lot of fun to give and to receive.
But I discovered something even more fun – making my own gift baskets!
They don’t have to be big or fancy or expensive to be a fun and appreciated gift. You can make a themed gifts basket such as the recipients favorite sports team or just a variety of items that will help them enjoy the season a bit more. And gift baskets aren’t just for Christmas either. Heck, they don’t even have to be in a basket!
I put together a “Warm & Cozy” gift tray as a Christmas gift for someone this year. It would also be perfect for someone trying to recover from an illness as well. Combined with my printable Christmas gift tags it makes a lovely DIY gift.
How to make a Christmas Gift basket
The first thing you need to do is to select the products you want to include. Depending upon the recipient, you can have as little as 2-3 items and they can be as simple as tea and candy. I chose the tray instead of a basket because I liked the way you could see everything.
Because I am going to give this to a neighbor or someone I don’t know super well, I went with a comforting theme perfect for dealing with winter ailments or just for staying warm & cozy. The blanket and socks will keep them extra warm during this cold winter. Chocolate and almond butter are a delicious treat. Lip balm is an absolute necessity during the winter. And a festive mug with tea that helps support the immune system will keep them warm from the inside out. I finished it up with a jar of Don Victor Honey. Not only is it delicious in tea (and probably with chocolate and almond butter), honey is a healthy, natural sweetener and is great for sore throats and coughs.
About Don Victor Honey:
Don Victor Honey is a quality, great tasting and affordable honey. You can find it in the Hispanic section at Walmart. It is super unique in that it actually contains a piece of honeycomb in the jar. You can’t get any more real than that!
Get some festive ribbon and a gift tag. I made my own gift tag specifically for my gift basket. I included a printable at the end so you can print it out on card stock and use for yourself. I made the holes with a regular hole puncher.
Feed the tag onto the ribbon. You can use a number of different widths of ribbon, you just might have to fold it to get it through the hole initially.
Assemble your basket. This sometimes takes awhile to get it setup exactly how you want. I was very happy with the way mine turned out.
Add the ribbon and any extra embellishments you like and you are ready to gift! You can add that plastic that you see gift baskets wrapped in if you need to and then just add the ribbon and tag to the outside of the plastic.
I haven’t actually decided who to give this fun basket to. I have to admit that part of me wants to keep it for myself!
Don Victor has some great new products that would be fun to include in a Christmas gift basket too. It’s all delicious, I tried it.
I had a lot of fun putting this basket together and can’t wait to give it to someone. Gift giving really is better than receiving.
