It’s fun to surprise people with a gift now and then.
Whether it is a simple gesture to show someone you appreciate them, or a gift for a special holiday such as Easter or Mother’s Day, wanting to give a gift and finding the perfect gift do not always go hand-in-hand.
There have been so many times that I wanted to show someone, through a small gift, how much I value them but often struggle to find something meaningful. I often resort to candy or something typical like a pre-packaged gift set or flowers. While these things are fine, they don’t last and they generally don’t reflect the meaning behind the gesture.
I’m always on the lookout for unique gifts and one great gift idea is potted bulbs. I admit it sounded kid of weird to me to give someone a pot filled with dirt instead of actual beautiful flowers but the sentiment is actually great!
Not only are you giving someone a unique gift they can enjoy for a long time, it is a gift that provides a feeling of excitement long after they receive it. They get to anticipate that first green that pops through the dirt. That first little bud. That first flower. And every flower after that. And the great thing about bulbs is that they can come back year after year. It’s a gift that truly does keep on giving.
My daughter and I went shopping for some bulbs and a pot. She picked everything out herself and we decided on a special person to give them to.
I have no real experience with types of flowers but Abby picked out Persian Buttercups and I am excited to see how they grow, they look beautiful from the picture. It really was very easy to do, you pretty much put dirt in, plop the bulbs in and finish covering them with dirt. Abby also picked out a ladybug decoration to give some life to the pot before and after the flowers bloom and some cute gardening gloves.
We decided to give this to my friend Dawn as a special gift. She is a great friend, and lately reminds me about all the important events in my life. I told her I’m going to have to pay her as my personal assistant. I’d probably forget a lot of things without her here to remind me, plus she’s a great friend and we have a lot of fun together. So we wanted to let her know just how special she is. And considering Abby told us the other day that Dawn’s son is her boyfriend, we might end up being family in about 20 years.
We surprised Dawn with her gift in the parking lot at the grocery store.
Hey, why not right?
She really liked the gift and was especially enamored with the color pot that Abby had picked out. She invited Abby over to see the flowers when they bloom. She thought giving potted bulbs was a really cool idea, and I talked to her later that day and said she likes the pot so much she wants to incorporate the color into her kitchen.
You can purchase potted bulbs at nurseries, grocery stores flower shops and more!
I had such a good time giving potted bulbs as a gift, I definitely think I will be giving more gifts like this in the future. Plus, Abby and I want our own potted bulbs so we are headed back out to the garden center for more!
