As a parent, one thing that has become more and more difficult to accept as time goes on is that my kids were born and raised in our “Internet Society.” Being connected, online, and always available are traits that seem as normal as breathing air to this generation. These things seem normal even if they are granted the most minimal amount of screen time.
It’s who we are as people now. Always right there at the touch of a button.
It has improved our way of life in tremendous ways, don’t get me wrong. As a whole, we are better for our cyber world that keeps even the furthest destinations at our fingertips.
Just because it is always readily available doesn’t mean I want my kids attached at the hip to an iPad all day. I want them to get off their butts, go outside, and play. I want my kids to use their imaginations. To take in the world from a child’s perspective.
That can’t happen with your nose in a screen.
How do I limit screen time?
This is a question I asked myself over and over again. We had tried many different things by this point. With multiple devices scattered throughout the house it wasn’t exactly easy to cut all of them off. This is especially true for our mobile devices.
Kids are sneaky, and I found them hiding with the iPad or one of our phones (that had mysteriously gone missing.) We needed to find something that helped us keep things in control at all times. My plans to force my kids to enjoy their childhood could have been ruined.
OurPact Parental Controls for iOS makes it incredibly easy to monitor and limit screen time when it matters most.
Not only is it important to limit screen time for the sake of enjoying childhood, but the Internet is an extremely dangerous place. There are many things online that we do not want our children having access to. OurPact helps us eliminate that threat by allowing us to block certain apps on our iPhone and iPad.
How Does OurPact work?
Firs thing you need to do is visit the OurPact page in the App Store and download the app. It’s FREE!
After downloading OurPact you need to create an account. This is quick and easy and is essential to the way OurPact works. Your parent account acts as your control center for managing OurPact. Once you have an account, you then create a profile for each of your children.
You then need to visit pair.ourpact.com ON EACH CHILD’S DEVICE to establish the OurPact Profile on their device and give you control.
Pairing their device with your account is remarkably easy and took only a few moments. I will admit that I wasn’t exactly sure how this would work, but I am officially impressed with the ease of this process.
After the setup is complete all of us parents can sit back, relax, and feel better about our choices as parents of mobile friendly children. With OurPact you can schedule exactly when and for how long they have access to the internet and certain apps on their device right from your device.
We will finally know for sure if our kids really only had 30 minutes of screen time playing Angry Birds. The guessing game is over.
This generation is definitely making parenting so much more interesting. For example, let’s say your child asked for a little extra screen time, you can say yes of course but only until I say so.
Of course “Until I say So” is a setting within the app. Not only can you give away extra time, you can also block access until you say so as well.
Set scheduled on/off times like for bed and during school hours. Be notified of any warnings or things you should look out for.
OurPact is now a must-have app in our household. It’s almost irresponsible to NOT use OurPact, especially because it is a FREE app that gives you complete control over their mobile lives.
