With all the controversy going on regarding school lunches, I have made a conscious effort to make my son’s home-made lunches more fun. I still allow hot to get a “hot lunch” every now and again, but in order to make sure he is allowed to make the choice himself, I’ve tried to make the lunches I make for him more appealing than a school lunch. It’s not a statement against the lunches our school provides, in fact our district seems to have made a conscious effort to provide healthy choices. Fruits, veggies and salads are always available and I know my son does eat them when he gets a hot lunch.
I actually believe that the decision to eat hot lunch or bring a lunch from home is a very valuable life lesson for kids and teaches them something that will serve them throughout their lives. I let my son choose because I believe that it helps set the stage for a life-long habit of making better choices. I believe that if I didn’t allow him that choice, if I restricted him from hot lunches all together, that it could possibly cause him to rebel later in life when he has more autonomy. Being exposed to all the options and taught to make the best choices among them will serve him much better than simply keeping him sheltered.
But this wasn’t supposed to be a soliloquy on a controversial topic!
This was supposed to tell you about the NEW Chuggington Lunch Kits.
One of the ways I make my son’s lunch FUN as I mentioned above is that I have started creating his lunch in more of a bento style. No more boring sandwich, chips and a cookie. Now he gets all sorts of fun goodies with a focus on fun and healthy, but also providing treats but on a more moderated level.
Take a look at one I made him recently:
At home I can’t get him to eat tomatoes. In his “fun lunch” he eats them and says they are good!
Another way I make his lunch fun is by putting his lunch in a fun lunch box.
And what’s more fun than Chuggington?
The new Chuggington lunch kits from Accessory Innovations come in 2 styles and are padded with an insulated interior to keep food fresh.
You can purchase these fun lunch kits at Toys “R” Us and ToysRUs.com. Right now they are only $4.98 online!
Note: I received the products indicated as part of my participation as a Chuggington Conductor.
