Last July my kids and I were in Chicago to visit a friend and journey to the John Hancock Observatory. We had some time to kill so we decided to walk around a little bit and as we crossed the street and came upon another building my daughter exclaimed “it’s my dream come true!”
She was referring to the American Girl Doll Store.
I had no idea that she even knew what American Girl was, let alone that she wanted one.
But she did.
My daughter is 6 years old and we decided to follow the recommended age of 8+ for the dolls. She is not overly careful with her things and we felt that she needed to earn the responsibility.
But in the meantime she is working on reading the books – with my help.
Which is why we were both excited to learn about American Girl’s new Doll of the Year – Isabelle.
American Girl’s Doll of the Year helps girls learn to shine in today’s world.
Every year, American Girl introduces a brand-new character with a story about finding success in the face of challenges today. From making friends to overcoming mistakes and more, each Girl of the Year discovers something new about herself and the world around her.
Isabelle™ Doll and Paperback Book
Retail Price: $120
Ages: 8 and up
Isabelle, the 2014 Girl of the Year, is an inspired dancer with a flair for design who is attending a performing-arts school in Washington, D.C. In Isabelle’s story, she embraces her one-of-a-kind talents to discover her own way to shine. The Isabelle doll is 18” tall with hazel eyes and long blonde hair with removable pink-tipped highlights. Isabelle arrives in a sequined coral tee with a glittery ballerina graphic and mesh tutu, and metallic denim pants with knit cuffs. Includes golden dance shoes and coral underwear, plus the Isabelle paperback book, written by Laurence Yep.
We received a copy of the book, which was the perfect way for us to get to know this limited edition doll.
We are just getting started reading the book because we are still working on finishing up Caroline’s book but we can’t wait to read it. What I love about American Girl is that it gives young girls someone to look up to and emulate who isn’t a celebrity. It gives them someone to relate to. Each child is sure to find an American Girl that shares her interests and talents and they set a great example in the ways that they can, and do, whatever their heart desires. They teach them to embrace their unique abilities rather than try and be like everyone else.
