Abby has been insisting on “meeting” Santa Claus for weeks now.
“I want to meet Santa,” she’d insist every morning.
We’d been hesitant to take her to the mall, and although our local town has a Breakfast With Santa every year, it’s so crowded that the one time we did go, we left because there was over a three hour wait to meet Santa.
We live in a fairly rural area, and while our town is a decent size, a neighboring town announced their Breakfast With Santa in the local paper and we decided to give it a try. So yesterday we packed up and went to “meet” Santa.
It was perfect.
I wondered if Abby would be afraid of Santa. In the past she didn’t understand and was not too comfortable around him. This year she went right up and showed him her bunny and her princess boots. Jake did most of the talking. As they left, Santa gave them each a little treat. Abby got a lollipop craft that looked like a reindeer. The entire rest of the day she wanted to eat “the candy that Santa gave her.” It was truly special candy.
I think now that both of my kids are old enough to enjoy Christmas, appreciate the lights and the food and the gifts, and understand the true meaning of Christmas, it really has brought the magic back.
