My husband is always on the road running his business, and half the time he is gone, he is visiting places he has never beem before and is not familiar with. In the past when he was lost I’d get a phone call. Below is an example of how one of these calls would go.
He: “hey can you look something up for me?”
He: “I’m in ‘sometown’ on ‘someroad’ and I just passed ‘someotherroad’ how do I get back on the interstate”
Me: “Ok, wait, what town?”
….pause while I open Google Maps and search for ‘Sometown’
Me: “Ok, now what road are you on?”
….pause while I look for ‘Someroad’
Me: “Ok, what direction are you going and what cross street was the last one you passed?”
He: “‘Someotherroad’ I just passed and I’m heading ‘somedirection'”
….pause while I search for ‘someotherroad’
Me: “You’re going the wrong way, you have to turn around.”
I love talking to my husband on the phone but being a human GPS is not necessarily my favorite thing.
But now I don’t have to, because he has a GPS in his car!
Magellan RoadMate 9055-LM GPS
The Magellan RoadMate 9055-LM is a premium GPS navigator with a huge 7″ touch screen and packed with features including Bluetooth calling, OneTouch™ favorites menu, free lifetime traffic alerts, highway lane assist and built-in AAA TourBook®, plus much more.
- Enjoy hands-free calling and superior sound quality with advanced Bluetooth technology.
- Highway lane assist guides you towards the correct lane when approaching interchanges and exits.
- Free Lifetime Traffic alerts provide real-time traffic information with no subscription fees.
- Huge 7” touch screen with premium maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
The first thing you notice about the Magellan RoadMate is the size. The screen is a huge 7″ making it much easier to see, use and program. It is 50% larger than the typical 4.3″ GPS. I was concerned about the size as far as the visibility around it being mounted on the windshield but it really doesn’t seem to be an issue.
My husband tested the Magellan out for a few weeks and while he did have a few hiccups along the way, I no longer get phone calls asking me for directions.
He said his favorite feature is the traffic updates. The unit comes with free lifetime traffic updates. No subscription required! It’s one thing to have a GPS to give you directions to where you need to go, but the Magellan RoadMate takes it to a whole new level by providing traffic updates so you can avoid accidents and traffic jams.
Overall the unit was fairly easy to install. The bracket was pretty large but it allows you to position it exactly where you want it and allows you to easily remove the unit to take it with you if you don’t want to leave it in your vehicle.
Some other features that have been helpful for him:
- One-touch favorites menu to program in your most visited locations and also to find your favorite places in other cities. If you HAVE to have Starbucks, no matter where you are, the Magellan RoadMate makes it easy.
- Highway lane assist helps you make sure you are in the correct lane for exiting off the highway.
- Included maps: USA, Canada and Puerto Rico.
The Magellan RoadMate also comes with advanced bluetooth technology for handsfree calling, an A/V input for watching movies or listening to music when not driving, and a number of other great features to help you “navigate with confidence” everywhere you go.
My husband really likes this GPS (and therefore so do I). When I asked him what he thought about it he said “this thing is great” and specifically mentioned the traffic feature. I did ask him if there was anything he didn’t like or needed improvement and he thought the bluetooth was not as clear as he needed it to be so he doesn’t use it.
You can purchase the Magellan RoadMate 9055-LM at Amazon.com and other major retailers. The current price on Amazon is $254.99
