Every once in awhile I happen to catch a commercial for BigSpot com surveys on TV, promising people they can earn money by taking paid surveys.
Sounds great right?
Who wouldn’t be enticed by the commercials and the potential to make some money online?
Or maybe not.
Maybe you are a skeptic.
Is BigSpot com a scam?
BigSpot advertises on television with promises that you can get paid to take surveys online. They say that it’s quick and easy and free. And that once you sign up you will receive survey offers that pay you actual money to provide your opinion.
In order to help you understand exactly what www bigspot com is about, I want to highlight a few things that you should know before signing up with a company that promises to set you up with paid survey opportunities.
Before I get into that, I do want to assure you that there are legitimate market research companies out there who will pay you for your time. They exist. You just have to know how to identify the legit from the scams.
Online surveys will not be a full time job, but they can offer you the opportunity to work from home to earn a little bit of extra money each month. Home jobs can be very appealing, just make sure you don’t fall for a surveys scam.
What’s the deal with Big Spot Survey?
- BigSpot does not collect money from you.
- BigSpot collects your name, address, and email address.
- BigSpot does not administer surveys.
- BigSpot does provide you with a short list of survey companies that will pay you for your time.
When you sign up for for BigSpot com expecting to make some extra money you will see the following screen:
You provide them with some basic information, and then hope for a list of surveys to take that will pay you for your time.
Instead, what you get is an affiliate marketing situation. BigSpot provides you with a short list of actual survey companies that you can join.
Bigspot earns money when you sign up for one of those companies. Considering their commercials and their advertising, it seems like they definitely have become a wealthy affiliate promoting survey companies by masquerading as one.
Bigspot is not a scam necessarily but you don’t need Bigspot.
In fact, providing your personal information to a third party in exchange for a list is not the safest thing you can do for your identity.
All you need to do is search the internet for bigspot com reviews to see that there is some question about whether BigSpot is a waste of time or not.
BigSpot.com – do they really pay you?
As I mentioned above, you can make some extra cash from some paid survey sites. But you need to be informed before signing up for an online survey website.
Big Spot essentially “refers” you to paying survey sites, I can’t find any proof that they actually offer any kind of payment within their platform. They refer you to the legitimate sites that do offer payment, and in return for your personal information, they get a referral commission.
But no, BigSpot doesn’t pay you.
Big Spot Survey – How to Actually Get Paid to Take Surveys Online
A legitimate survey company will not redirect you to sign up for another company. They will likely have a detailed form for you to fill out to match you with relevant surveys – this is called demographics – advertisers and brands target certain audiences.
Legitimate companies will administer the surveys themselves or linked directly through their platform. They will also be the ones to pay you or provide you with rewards points you will redeem for cash.
So how do you find these legit companies?
Market research, otherwise called consumer opinion, is something that many companies utilize in order to expand or improve their products and services. Sales are a huge indicator of whether or not a product is successful, but that doesn’t give them insight into why.
Also, at the development phase, these companies need real people to bounce ideas off of in order to ensure their products are well-received once they hit they shelves. So they ask people like you and me our opinions. About packaging, design, features, flavors, scents, names, shelf locations and so much more.
In order to reach us, they hire market research companies. These companies have established “panels” where they administer the surveys to the appropriate demographics. You sign up for these panels, provide your information such as age, family makeup, location, etc. and they send you invitations by email to take relevant surveys.
If you complete these surveys you will earn money or points you can redeem for cash or gift cards. It’s not a lot, but it can add up.
BigSpot does appear to refer you to legitimate survey companies, but you don’t need them, you can cut out the middleman and go straight to the source.
I have two simple rules when it comes to online survey taking:
- Never, ever PAY to be a part of a market research company or to receive a list of free paid survey sites.
- Don’t give your personal information to receive a list of free paid surveys sites.
Big Spot Surveys breaks rule number two. They don’t appear to host their own surveys, but you are required to provide your personal information to receive a list of survey companies.
This doesn’t sound like a big deal, but anyone who has had their email address sold and ended up on 400 different spam email lists that they never signed up for knows that it can end up being quite annoying.
The way you get paid to take surveys online is to sign up with legitimate market research companies.
Legitimate Survey Sites
As I mentioned, a legit survey company does not redirect you to other survey companies the way bigspot com does. Instead you create an account with them and they administer surveys and pay you for your time in the form of cash, checks or points you can redeem for prizes.
It’s been a few years since I have actually participated in paid surveys but when I was doing it, I sometimes earned a couple hundred dollars in a month. Mostly it was smaller amounts around $30-$50/mo. But hey, it all adds up. I used to save my survey money for Christmas gifts.
There are a couple of sites that I really liked using and I seemed to do quite well with.
- Take Surveys, Get Paid with GlobalTestMarket
- Join the PineCone Research Online Consumer Panel and help to influence tomorrow’s products today!
- Join Opinion Outpost and start sharing your opinion.
- Join the Ipsos I-Say Panel where you will earn Reward Points for taking surveys.
You can find more information and online survey site reviews (including information about BigSpot) over at SurveyPolice. A quick Google search will reveal plenty of options as well.
So, is BigSpot com a scam? I don’t think it is, they just aren’t being truthful in their advertising in order to make a buck.
