I try and make health and fitness a daily part of my kids lives. Not in a pushy, un-fun way either. I’m always looking for a way to incorporate these values into their lives so they develop healthy habits and enjoy being active, not looking for excuses to avoid it. I want them to grow up and make positive decisions regarding their own health because it was instilled in them at a young age but not drilled into them so hard they rebel from it.
I have some tools in my arsenal with regards to this goal and am constantly on the lookout for more.
Lately a big tool has been the Wii system Santa brought us. We workout together and all 3 of us get active and moving while having a great time. But I also want to encourage them to get out of the house or at least away from the TV and the video games.
GeoPalz is a fitness tracker for kids. Think pedometer but FUN!
Walk to Win!
GeoPalz is the first fitness tracker that lets you “Walk to Win.” The more steps you take, the more pedpoints you get. Trade’em in for all types of prizes, from Frisbees and jump ropes to baseball bats and footballs, you can also save your points to win a Bike or skateboard.
GeoPalz come in a huge variety of designs from sports and edgy skater guys to princesses and cutsey bugs & flowers. They were designed to allow a child to choose a GeoPalz that reflects their personality and allows them to be themselves.
Geopalz asks me if I wanted to check out their product and they let me pick out one for each of my kids. It was a pretty easy choice:
You can see all the available GeoPalz in the GeoPalz store.
GeoPalz are very easy to use, they work like a normal pedometer tracking steps. To turn it on and start tracking you simply shake it. There is a reset button on the front to start counting for a new activity. The “GeoPalz” is a rubbery vinyl type character that actually works like a little carrier for the pedometer part. It has a clip on the back to attach it to pants, a belt or a backpack or some other convenient place, then the fitness tracker part is attached to the GeoPalz with a little cord and slides into it securely.
After you get your GeoPalz, you create a free account online, link their GeoPalz to it using the code that comes with it, and your kids begin tracking their steps.
You can track multiple unlimited times, so even multiple times a day if they want, just make sure to reset the tracker after you enter their steps into their account.
The steps are then converted to points. One mile = one point.
Once they have enough points, they can redeem their points for great prizes. They have gift cards for Target & iTunes, a frisbee, a backpack, and a number of other small toys. As little as 40 pts is enough to redeem for a prize.
My kids are really enjoying their GeoPalz. They like wearing them on the waist of their pants, and I was worried but the clip is VERY SECURE. My daughter was rolling around in the grass and hers never fell off. They are coming up with ways to keep their bodies moving in order to be able to go online and track their steps, they both have a prize picked out that they are saving up for.
GeoPalz is a great tool for me to have. My kids are motivated by the prizes, of course, but also seem to have a lot of fun wearing and using their GeoPalz. I like that it is encouraging them to be more active and help support the healthy lifestyle that we want to achieve.
GeoPalz sent me 2 products to facilitate my review. Opinions expressed are my own.
