When it comes to keeping kids safe around the house, we all know the common topics – hot ovens, stairs, tipping furniture, knives, outlets…the list goes on and of the things we try and keep our kids safe from.
But there is a very dangerous elements to many homes that we often forget to protect our families from. It is large, heavy and could pose a great danger. It is the garage door.
The International Door Association (IDA) wants to help spread the word about this often overlooked safety hazard. The IDA is a trade associate with over 2,000 members consisting of door and access systems dealers and installers. If anyone knows about garage doors and their safety, it’s these folks, and they have created a safety quiz where you can test your safety smarts when it comes to garage doors.
Make Sure Your Garage Door is KID SAFE
Is your garage door system “kid safe?” That all depends on what you know about garage doors, the condition of your current door system, and what you’ve taught your kids about Garage Door Safety.
Take the GarageDoorCare.com Garage Door Safety quiz, offered by the International Door Association (IDA). Knowing the answers to these five questions can help you and your family today, and in the future.

How about you?
In order to help your kids learn about the do’s and don’ts of garage doors, the IDA has developed an acronym that makes it easy to remember.
- Doors are heavy – never stand, run or play under or near any garage door, especially when the door is open or moving.
- Openers are for adults – never play with the button on the wall that opens and closes the garage door.
- Ouch! – never touch any part of a moving garage door. Your fingers and hands can get hurt!
- Remotes are for adults – never play with the remote control in the car or on Mom and Dad’s keychain.
