I spent the last year doing the same thing every morning. Like clockwork this thing became a part of my daily routine. And it isn’t something just as simple as brushing my teeth. It is something that invaded my brain constantly throughout the day. It was more than something I “do”, it became a part of who I am.
This “thing” is called a Fitbit and it has really become an integral part of my day. I put it on in the morning and refer to it constantly throughout the day.
What is Fitbit?
Fitbit is a device that helps motivate you to be more active. It is a discrete wireless tracker that helps you add more exercise into your routine, monitor your diet, manage your weight and even helps you sleep better.
Fitbit is dedicated to helping people lead healthier, more active lives. We take a common sense approach to fitness, and believe that the key is to make it easier for consumers to be more active, eat smarter, and get enough sleep — in short, that small changes to your daily routine can add up to big results. To that end, we aim to create innovative, inspiring products and online services that harness the power of new technologies to make people more aware of their everyday activities and motivate them to do more.
The Fitbit One is a wireless activity tracker that you clip on your clothing. I generally wear mine on my waist or pocket but you pretty much clip it wherever it will fit.
Get fit. Sleep better. All in the One™
THE ONE™ WIRELESS ACTIVITY & SLEEP TRACKER
If you want to turn fitness into a lifestyle, the One™ is for you. For starters, it never rests. During the day, it tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, and stairs climbed. Come nightfall, it measures your sleep cycle, helps you learn how to sleep better, and wakes you in the morning. The One™ motivates you to reach your goals by bringing greater fitness into your life – seamlessly, socially, 24 hours a day.
The One allows you to keep track of every part of your day with respect to your diet and physical activity, and at night it can tell you all about how you sleep (or don’t sleep as the case may be).
It tracks the following:
- Steps taken
- Calories burned
- Distance traveled
- Stairs climbed
- Hours left
- Quality of sleep
Powered by Fitbit’s leading-edge accelerometer and altimeter, the One™ accurately captures all-day activity that old-school pedometers can’t handle. It bases calculations like calories burned on your personal profile – reflecting your stats, not any average Joe’s.
The Fitbit One is pretty small and discrete. It fits inside a rubber clip that you can pretty much attach anywhere. It syncs wirelessly to your computer and your phone and is splash and sweat proof. It is there for you as your constantly companion to help you on your journey towards a fit and healthy life. You can view your progress on the FitBit itself and on your computer or mobile device.
Fitbit and Me
My Fitbit is like an obsession for me. I check it constantly to see where I am with my steps. I have a minimum daily goal of 10,000 steps but usually exceed it. The first thing you do with your Fitbit is log into your dashboard. Take a look at mine below:
The One gives you such a wide range of information about your daily physical activity. The food plan section relies on you accurately inputting your daily food intake, but then it provides you with the tools you need to maintain or lose weight, depending upon your goals. It will track your calories as you enter them and tell you how many you have remaining for the day. The One also converts your steps or the extra activity you enter in to calories so that you are sure you do not end up with too low of a deficit for the day.
It’s very motivating to see everything laid out and organized in your dashboard and Fitbit provides badges based upon your achievements. You can then share your badges via social media.
One of the best parts of The One, though, is that you can add friends who also have a Fitbit and sort of “compete” against them. It’s so inspiring to see your friends right in your dashboard along with their weekly step count.
Fitbit will also send a weekly email with a wrap-up of the weeks activities.
I cannot imagine my life without my Fitbit. I am motivated daily to not only exceed my own numbers, but my friends as well. The harder they work, the harder I am motivated to work! I use my Fitbit with the MyFitnessPal website and app, they actually talk to each other and everything I input into MyFitnessPal gets synced into my Fitbit account and vice-versa.
