I find that the older I get, the more reasons I find to blame children and pets for losing my stuff. It can’t possibly be me who set my keys down in the fridge and my phone in the utensil drawer. Clearly a child or a very agile dog (I’m looking at you Sadie) must have had something to do with it.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
But regardless of who is responsible for putting the TV remote in the hall closet (which as I mentioned, but feel the need to clarify, was totally not me), lost items like keys and remotes need to be found. Especially when The X-Files is about to come on and modern TV’s just don’t have a non-remote option. And even more especially when your kids are both invited to spend the day at a friend’s house (hello quiet, I have missed you). MUST. FIND. KEYS.
Thankfully, I now have Chipolo!
Chipolo is a small, round Bluetooth tracker that you can attach to just about anything so can find the things you lose most often. It connects to a free app on your phone and keeps track of your things. It can also help you find your phone if you happen to have your Chipolo but misplaced your phone!
It rings when you are searching it. It shows you the last known location on a map. Shake the Chipolo and ring your phone, even if it’s set on silent. Attach, stick or drop the Chipolo inside everyday items and find them in seconds.
Chipolo is pretty and sleek and comes in 9 fun colors. 1 Chipolo costs $29.95 but you get a discount if you buy more than 1! I received a pink and green Chipolo to try out.
Chipolo setup is super easy. Like so easy that I didn’t have to ask my 12 year old to help, which actually happens a lot when it comes to technology. I did it all by myself! First you have to download the app and create an account. Then you select “New Chipolo” and simply remove the little plastic tab from the device. The screen then talks you through the simple process.
I kinda love that you set the Chipolo on the phone in the little circle in order to activate it. Super straightforward.
Once your Chipolo (or Chipolos – Chipoloes?, anyway…) are activated, you will then see them in the list on your phone. You can view them in “map” mode as well to see where they are, or select an individual Chipolo from the list to be able to initiate the chime that will sound that helps you find the item your Chipolo is attached to.
You can use Chipolo on just about anything you can attach it to via the metal ring or an adhesive disc (provided). You can even slide Chipolo inside a wallet, purse or backpack.
You can attach one to your key ring or the remote.
You can even attach it to your dog!
When your item is lost, Chipolo will tell you if the item is in range (200 ft). If so, you can activate the chime from the app and your Chipolo will ring so you can locate your missing item. If your Chipolo goes out of range, it will show you the last known location from when it was in range to give you a starting point to look for your item.
Because Chipolo works over bluetooth with your phone, it is not a true GPS and will not show you a real-time exact location of your item. However, Chipolo has this neat feature where it runs off a community based network so if another Chipolo user is in range of your item, you will be notified of its location. This is a completely secure and private feature so no one else in the network is notified that you are looking for an item. Once you find your item, hold your phone up and shake your Chipolo to take a #ChipoloSelfie and share it on social media so you can show off your joy at finding your things with Chipolo!
A Chipolo can be tracked by two phones at the same time which is a cool feature, especially if you have a spouse who often misplaces both their keys and their phone at the same time.
Get your Chipolo Item Finder and never search for lost items again!
What color will you pick?
I received a Chipolo to review through my partnership with the Quality Blue Community. All opinions are my own.
