Ah wine. My very favorite drink ever! And with summer on the horizon, get-togethers like Memorial Day are the perfect time to have some fun with your favorite wine and make some creative, delicious wine cocktails that are a welcome change from beer. Now don’t get me wrong, there is certainly a place for beer on your Memorial Day menu, but your guests will appreciate a fresh and delicious option!
When it comes to wine, I had never really thought to mix it with anything. I mean, it tastes so good on its own, why would you need to do anything with it? But after creating my own wine cocktail I am officially the world’s biggest fan of wine cocktails!
Yum.
But don’t worry, it’s easy, and Frontera Wines has some amazing recipes to help you get started.
Frontera Wines (from Excelsior Wines) are the #1 southern wine brand sold in the US. They have quality wines at affordable prices and have products for every taste. They are the perfect way to impress your Memorial Day guests with a great tasting wine and some ingredients you probably already have at home.
Frontera Wines has created some delicious recipes using some of your favorite Frontera Wines varieties. My favorite Frontera variety is Moscato so their Oh Honey Bee recipe was the perfect choice for me to try.
So I gathered my ingredients (I am not a fan of raspberries, plus didn’t have any so I substituted strawberries) and prepared to make my very first wine cocktail. I also had to use dried thyme instead of fresh but it didn’t seem to affect the drink.
Overall it was very easy to make this yummy drink, but I admit I did have to look up what “muddling” was because I had no idea. There are a lot of different opinions about the best way to “muddle” but the bottom line is that you need to use thick glass or metal for the container and a spoon or tool without a lacquer or anything that can scrape off into the glass.
Using my stainless steel cocktail shaker and an apple corer, I mashed the ingredients together in the bottom of the shaker before pouring the wine in.
Now, I have to admit that I wasn’t sure how thyme would taste in a wine drink. So my first sip was hesitant. But it was delicious! The thyme was the perfect compliment to the tart and sweet flavor of the wine, honey, lemon and strawberries.
I can’t wait to serve this on Memorial Day! Everyone will think I spent a lot of time making this delicious drink when it only takes a few minutes! The recipe is for a single glass but you can easily multiply the ingredients to make a whole pitcher of Moscato Cocktail.
