I am embarrassed.
Well, I was.
Because until last week, this was our bedroom closet:
Yeah, it was a mess. There is not much you can do with a single rod and a shelf.
It left a lot of empty space and forced us to have to hang some of our clothes in the basement because they just wouldn’t all fit in the closet. The rest of the space we just piled with junk rather than leave it unused.
Of all of the rooms in our house, our bedroom has been the most neglected. It’s not a very big room and the bed takes up most of the space leaving very little room for dressers. So the closet is a critical space for our clothes.
We had always talked about doing something with it but didn’t get around to it until now.
Wayfair.com has so many solutions for conquering your closet. The hard part is picking which items you want to start with! I knew I wanted a closet, system. Check out the 3 I had it narrowed down to:
1. AkadaHOME 14.75″ Deep Wide Closet Tower
2. Rubbermaid Deep Deluxe Closet Kit
3. Rubbermaid Configurations 96″ Deep Closet Set
In the end, I chose option 3 because of the versatility of being able to move everything around to meet our needs. The Rubbermaid Configurations Set is easy to install and fully customizable so your closet will be organized exactly how you need it.
I was shocked that all the pieces fit inside this fairly small box!
Installation was easy! There is a horizontal piece that gets mounted across the upper back of the closet, and then 5 vertical rods that hand off the horizontal piece. The vertical rods also get secured to the wall.
All of the brackets, shelving and rods are adjustable and easy to customize. I must have moved things around 5 times or more before coming up with the perfect layout for our closet.
I put only the clothes that came out of the closet back into it, we have plenty of room for all of the clothes that are hanging in the basement now too!
On the floor on either side, we have room for a couple of bins with our out of season clothes in them, which is nice to be able to keep all of our clothes in the closet and not have to store them elsewhere.
I love the versatility of the shelves!
And the shelf on top takes advantage of the full height of the closet allowing us to store some things up there that we only use on rare occasion.
I couldn’t be more happy with how this turned out; I keep opening the closet doors to look to make sure it’s still there!

February 11, 2015 at 9:43 amGood for you! Organizing our closet was a project that we never got to do last year. I haven’t talked to the husband again about it. We’ll see in the springtime or summertime. 🙂

February 11, 2015 at 4:34 amThat is soooo convenient and it’s very nice. I have to admit, I do need a set or two for my closet. I have so much clothes and bags. A lot of them are on my bed and are slowly occupying my Mom’s room. So yeah, I know – I need to start fixing stuff. I am so inspired!

February 10, 2015 at 4:19 pmI totally need this in my closet. I never realized how inexpensive closet organizational systems really are. I have old farmhouse closets with no space at all. We could use a few of these.

February 10, 2015 at 3:26 pmThat’s quite a transformation! I’ve got major closet issues since downsizing from two homes to one. I purge and purge but it’s like stuff multiplies when I’m not looking.

February 9, 2015 at 6:37 pmOMG girl, your closet was out of control LOL 🙂 I’m glad you got it all organized. I have sliding mirrored doors on my closet. I like to pretend I don’t open them because they make the room look bigger, but it’s really because my entire world would spill on the floor

February 9, 2015 at 6:31 pmThis system you chose is very similar to our Elfa systems in our house. They are wonderful because they truly maximize space. Your closet looks great.
