Yesterday it rained all day where we live and I have to admit total parental inadequacy when it comes to entertaining my children when they are stuck inside all day.
Although I do start off with the best of intentions. We are talking games and arts and crafts and baking cupcakes and just spending time unplugged together all day. Like Donna Reed in yoga pants. But usually we don’t get very far. Maybe we actually complete a board game but after about an hour of having to interact with each other my kids are fighting and I am ready to go hide in the bathroom.
Usually I give in and turn on the TV and they end up on the couch arguing over who gets to pick the show.
They only pout for a few minutes after I tell them that I get to pick the show.
There are plenty of shows on Netflix that are family-friendly and actually appeal to all of us. In fact, some of them I even find myself watching when my kids aren’t around. We are slowly making our way through my list of the 100 Best Summer Movies for the Whole Family on Netflix and some of the 50 G & PG Rated Shows That Actually Teach Kids Stuff on Netflix. But we are also loving some of the new Netflix original shows too. The new Netflix original show Fuller House has become a favorite of ours as has The Little Prince which is also a Netflix original. But our most recent discovery is a brand new show from Netflix called Beat Bugs!
Beat Bugs is a new Netflix original series and is inspired by the music of the Beatles for multi-generational family fun. The main characters are five charming and energetic bug-like creatures who experience kid-friendly story lines and includes the best music ever made — recorded by today’s top artists, including Jennifer Hudson, P!nk, Sia and Eddie Vedder.
It’s a fun little show that has the kids loving the characters and the story lines and me totally digging some of my all-time favorite tunes. They even did their version of Blackbird (sung by Sia), one of my most favorite Beatles songs ever.
Check out the Beat Bugs “All You Need Is Love” sing along below for a sneak peak at the show:
To help us enjoy the show, Netflix sent us a fun Beat Bugs swag box that my daughter could not wait to dig into!
Her favorite episode so far is the one where Walter sings “I am the Walrus” but she really seems to be enjoying them all.
Maybe one day I’ll play the original versions of the songs for her.
What is your favorite Beatles song?
